Last September, the Seattle Symphony and Gerard Schwarz belted out a powerful “Symphony of a Thousand.”  Next week, the performance makes an appearance on compact disc.  After next Thursday’s subscription concert the Seattle Symphony will announce a new collaboration between the orchestra and local glass artist Dale Chihuly.  The band will also be releasing a limited edition run of Mahler’s 8th Symphony.

A few days before, on May 4th, the young composers who participated in the David Diamond Young Composer’s Workshop get a chance to showcase their work and discuss their pieces.  The David Diamond Young Composer’s Workshop is a 12 week, intensive composition master class lead by Samuel Jones.  Jones is the Seattle Symphony’s composer in residence.  This concert is free.
